Somali Civil Society Peace Rally in Mogadishu

 

Today (18th February 2004) the Somali Civil Society in Action has organized large peace rally participated by all walks of life of Mogadishu Inhabitants, which gathered at Studio Mogadishu in support of the ongoing Somali Reconciliation Conference at Nairobi, Kenya whereby about 10 thousand persons have participated in this peace rally to demonstrate their strong support to the Somali peace talks.

Among the participants of the above peace rally were: School Students, Women Groups, members of the 53 Somali Civil Society in Actions, Religious groups, Youth Organizations, the Inhabitants of the Mogadishu’s 16 Districts, various Groups of Sports’ Clubs, Somali National Artist Groups etc.

Representatives of the above groups who have spoken on behalf of the different Groups of the Participants have all expressed the great need of the Somali people to have system of own governance, and have expressed their great hopes that a government of national unity will come out from the Nairobi Somali National Reconciliation Conference and further to that have requested from the International Community and in particular the IPF not to accept any move which may tend to cause the abort of the Reconciliation Conference.

Ms. Zeinab Hagi Ali Bahsan a well known member of the Somali National Artist, Mrs. Batula Mohamed Mursal, Chair lady of COGWO, Mohamed Osman Feisal representing from the school students, Sheikh Ahmed Osman from the Traditional Leaders, Ibrahim Omer Sabrie Acting Mayor of Mogadishu, have appealed to the Somali political Leaders, particularly those who have threaten to withdraw from the recent agreements concluded by the all Somali Factions to proceed to the third phase of the conference, which is also the final phase of power sharing and stop any further bloodshed by honoring the sprit of the agreement they signed .

Finally, the Speakers have reminded the various political Leaders of Somalia, the social agonies that Somalia has been enduring for the past 14 years of the senseless civil conflicts in Somalia, which has dehumanized our God given dignities and compelled us to loss of all our natural rights and identity.
