Members
of the United Nations Security Council today expressed their
support for the peace initiative on Somalia initiated by the
Government of Djibouti, the Council President said in New
York.
President
Wang Yingfan of China, who holds the Council's rotating presidency
for the month of May, told the press that Security Council
members also called on the international community to provide
both political and financial support for Djibouti's endeavours.
During
the Council's informal consultations on Somalia this morning,
UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Kieran Prendergast
briefed the members on the current situation in the country.
